WORLD (2010)

1. BBFUW

You can fight every day for a cause but that’s not news / The pimps get the cars and the girls and good guys lose / I think I may have seen every trick in the book / Did he fall on his own or was he given a push?

There’s nothing that can’t be fixed / There’s no-one who can’t be turned / It’s a beautiful, beautiful fucked up world.

The boss says she’ll take of you but she never will / The quarterly results come in and the rest is fill / The girls chase the guy who is chasing the buck / The buck’s giving grief it’s not giving out love.

You can’t use everything that you have / But it’s still not enough /Every voice, every screen, every friend / Wants to sell you more stuff / They help you to take on a little more debt / They tell you not to worry but they never forget

There’s nothing that can’t be fixed / And there’s no one who can’t return / It’s a beautiful, beautiful fucked up world

2.  On My Way

Copper days and silver nights / Built upon a wishing well / Velvet roads and cotton skies / Fresh upon a summer spell

I don’t know different from the way I know / And I don’t know why it goes the way it goes / But honey that’s OK / ‘Cause I am on my way

The last time I slept in your bed / I lay awake before the sun rose / With a dream and a plan in my head / Swirling like a prairie snow

I don’t know different from the way I know / And I don’t know why it goes the way it goes / But honey that’s OK / ‘Cause I am on my way

You get your shot, you take your shot / Sometimes you get another go / Some succeed and some do not / Sometimes you never know.

There are heroes that live in Park Place / There are strangers that treat you kind / There are friends who don’t know your name / But find peace in a noble mind

I don’t know different from the way I know / And I don’t know why it goes the way it goes / But honey that’s OK / ‘Cause I am on my way

3. Burntroot

I want to know that the time is right / I want to know who’ll be with you tonight / If the answers fit the questions / I will eddy from the flow / But I need to know which way the wind blow.

When I’m up on Burntroot when I’m talking to you / When I’m in a situation crystal balling too / You know they say the times is easy / But all they is is slow / And I need to know which way the wind blow.

Psychometry’s a beauty to behold / And you should play more music Socrates was told

Are you nothing more than what I thought was true? / Am I something less than one thing more for you?

As a matter of fact, I’m a seller and buyer / As a matter of faith I’ll be tending the fire / If the wind and the sun and the rain are in / What‘s keeping you still? / Give me a word you won’t or you will

If the answers fit the questions / I will eddy from the flow / But I need to know what I don’t know.

4. The Line

I’m the line you said you’d never cross / I’m the shine you thought that you had lost / You pinned my name onto the wall of never in this life / Now you’re fingering the needle that just might get you high

I don’t mind the pace that never ends / Too much time can be the devil’s friend / I will lay my hand upon a shoulder that is cold / Until the blood beneath runs hot, until the heart grows bold

I’m the sign of passage yet to come / I’m the time that never had its run / And I will spin into an arc that carries hope upon / Until the dogs of light have shone, until the light is gone.

Some folks like to feel the sun, others take the shade / Me I take whatever comes ‘cause that’s the way I’m made.

I am the name that’s written cross your chest / I am the burn that never lets you rest / And I will bow before your will when bowing’s what you need / But I will never change what is and I will always be / I am the line.

5. Five Star Work

Come winter past the house was all in order / Came time to go and double cross the border / Of knowing and comfort / Where I banged my head on the reason / That put me on a road to you.

Caught in a world with voices yelling louder / Outside a style that values keeping powder / Dry for the next time / Do I hang my head for the season? / Or do I stay out on the road awhile?

Call anytime you can place your bet / I think I’m doing five star work / But that’s not what I get / I’m trying to have a heart to heart / But we have never met /It’s been a long, long day /And it’s not over yet.

Come Annabelle the jump is the creation /Who listens for a whispered revelation? /Is there no needing /To tell the tale with other than screaming? /It’s probably just some soft pop jazz.

I navigate through purist good intentions / I’ve got GPS but they don’t take directions / They know where they’re going / And you better go along with what they are saying / Or you will not be playing long / You will not be going on.

6. Wonderfully Well

Its early morning and I’m waking from my sleep / Just got to find a way to get up on my feet / Don’t know what happened but I must have gone deep / Out on a mission last night to break the peace.

There may have been a girl, I think the girl could tell / That I was nervous like a cat that wore a bell / She got down on hands and knees, her grin it cast a spell / Man it worked for me wonderfully well.

Wonderful and wicked / Wonderfully well / Wonderful and wicked / Wonderfully well

Never seems to work out as it first appears / First there’s lots of laughing and then there’s lots of tears / Hanging like the crystal upon a chandelier / Never-ending like a midnight clear.

Now I’m not doing too much, cause there’s not too much to do / Rub at the minutes like scuffing up my shoe / Drop another hour flipping through the tube / I’m not doing much ‘cause there’s not too much to do.

You’ve got to walk like light and haul that ball and chain / You’ve got to crack the ice and burn inside your brain / You’ve got to run that seam and push those bulls away / You’ve got to wonder well.

Its early morning and I’m waking from my sleep / Just got to find a way to get up on my feet / Don’t know what happened but I must have gone deep / Out on a mission . . . out on a mission . . . out on a mission.

7. Won’t Let You Go

There’s nothing you can say to change my mind / There’s nothing left to gain by trying one more time /You’re going to lose in time if you walk away /You don’t know what you’ve got to change.

I have made for the light, a shepherd in the snow / I have paid for the right and I won’t let it show / But I can’t let you go.

There comes a path that must be walked upon /My feet have found their ground going down that road / I’ve seen a road or two in my time / I just can’t tell where you’ve gone.

I have made for the light, a shepherd in the snow / I have paid for the right and I won’t let it show / But I can’t let you go.

The high can never last / The last won’t be denied / The best is what we have right now.

There’s nothing you can say to change my mindThere’s nothing left to gain by trying one more time / You’re going to lose in time if you walk away / You don’t know what you’ve got to change.

I have made for the light, a shepherd in the snow / I have paid for the right and I won’t let it show / But I can’t let you go.

I won’t ever let you go.

8. On the Hunt

I am always on the hunt / For trouble and opportunity / You don’t know the wrong I have done / And when I’ve got you made / I’ll make you think I’m bringing aid / The only thing I’m bringing is betrayed.

My friends tell me I’m too hard on myself / Let it go, they may be right / But where I’m from there is no-one but yourself / To see you through.

I got my start at the bottom of the pile / Another grunt to take the shite / I just smiled as I did what I was told / And then I moved, I made a move.

Right from the start they called me banjo boy / Even though I didn’t play / They lived a life of tricks behind my back / But I could see.

Then one day they put a hurt on me / We all know how kids can be / I asked them once “please don’t do that to me” / And I didn’t ask again.

My friends tell me I’m too hard on myself / Let it go, they may be right / But where I’m from there is no-one but yourself / To see you through.

9. Angel on the Moon

The angel on the moon / Is looking at the afternoon / To come / Morning has its due / The next one never comes too soon.

The way it seems to go / We’re waiting on the cue for the show / To begin / A song comes drifting in /

On the edge and in the wind.

Possible, tell me it’s possible / To be with you. / Lost until, I will be lost until / You say you will.

The angel in the sun / Is gazing cross the day to come / Killing time / She open up the shirt / Kick off the shoes, adjust the skirt. /

Possible, tell me it’s possible / To be with you. / Lost until, I will be lost until / You say you will.

The angel in the sun / Is gazing cross the day to come / Killing time / She open up the shirt / Kick off the shoes, adjust the skirt. / Morning has its due / The next one never comes too soon. / A song comes drifting in / On the edge and in the wind.

10. Not Too High

I try not to get too high / I don’t go too low / I try not to get too high / I don’t go too low.

This is how I start each day / Reflection in a mirror / Cold and flat and looking back / Mercury and clear / But there’s a grin keeps pushing in / Welcome to the world / And if I had a walking stick / I’d give that cane a twirl.

She’s totally small picture / I’m always talking big / That must be the reason / We keep crashing up our rig. / I know she’s got her own life / I figure I’ve got mine / But every now and then we find / A way to share some time.

For better or for worse / I follow my own star / For the praise or for the curse / I’m setting my own bar / Speaking of the bar and all / I think I’ll go down there / And have a drink with all my friends / For those no longer here

11. BUTTERFLY ATTACK

Tough week again / I got drunk with a friend / Said some things that I shouldn’t have said / Just between you and me / But the words flew out of the cage in my mouth / Now the words are spinning free. / It’s easy to hear what you fear / In a poverty of reason / Viral in need like jealousy / As easy as your breathing

Not first not last / Echo on from the past / Stock will rise and stock will fall / It’s a matter of degree / Bears will maul, worms will crawl / Empires must finally fall / It’s easy to hear what you fear / In a poverty of reason / Viral in need like jealousy / As easy as your breathing

Watch on your back for the butterfly attack / Watch what you say and where the words will play / Watch what you hear for it may be that you will only hear / What you fear.

Some false some true / Some say about you / Desdemona lied, Mark Twain finally died /Armstrong walked on the moon, there are zombies in the room / It’s easy to hear what you fear / In a poverty of reason / Viral in need like jealousy / As easy as your breathing
